54 London Road Leicestershire

This modern new high quality student accommodation development, built by JCT contract at 54 London Road Leicestershire, offers the best possible surroundings including spacious, comfortable rooms, centrally located next to Leicester train station and has been designed to help students socialise and make new friends.

This new-build high quality student accommodation is a six and seven-storey scheme providing 132 student bed spaces, high quality communal areas and ground floor retail space.

The previous buildings on the site were demolished.

The development utilised a fusion build insulated light gauge steel system providing advantages to the speed in which the superstructure could be erected and made watertight.

BSP Consulting provided civil and structural engineering services for the development at 54 London Road Leicestershire.

Working closely with BEC M&E engineers, we adapted a communal area to incorporate a plant room with new incoming feeds below foundations and through floor with a bespoke flooring solution. Hot water is provided by air source heat pumps.

Key challenges and engineering solutions

Our foundations were amended due to finding underground structures that had to stay in place.

The original plant area was too small, a communal area of the ground floor had to be adopted to house a new substation with a bespoke floor system.

The upper storeys were a modular system we hadn’t worked with previously.

We met the proposed suppliers and viewed their construction facilities and provided a very hands on part of the design process, ensuring all our structural concerns were considered.
