Access Strategies and Preliminary Highway Design

BSP develops access strategies for a wide range of developments, from individual plots to strategic sites. We assess site constraints, existing and proposed movements and vehicle speeds, and design requirements to develop safe, inclusive and practical access solutions for all users.

Our preliminary highway design services include private accesses, priority junctions, roundabouts, signalised junctions, pedestrian and cycle infrastructure, bus infrastructure, public realm improvements, highway safety schemes and junction capacity improvements.

Our team works with relevant design standards and best practice, including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, Traffic Signs Manual, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, local highway authority design guides and other applicable guidance. We offer experienced advice regarding processing of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and the design of traffic signs and road markings.

Our highway design advice is supported by in-house swept path analysis and vehicle tracking expertise. We  also provide preliminary design advice and drawings for internal layouts, turning heads, servicing routes and parking provision.

Our preliminary design work is informed by experts in detailed highway design, enabling us to propose deliverable solutions from the initial design stage.  See Infrastructure Design services.
