APS2 Distribution Centre Alconbury

BSP Consulting is part of a design team building a new 310,000 sq ft temperature-controlled distribution centre for integrated fresh food company AM Fresh at Alconbury near Huntingdon.

Designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of very good, the warehouse has a structural multi-span portal frame. The development also includes three-storey offices and a two-storey plant/workshop.

BSP is providing full civil and structural engineering services for the scheme, known as APS2, including detailed highway and drainage design.

Bowmer + Kirkland is delivering the project. Other members of the construction team include architects Arctica, building consultant Anderson Green, property and construction consultant Gleeds, and landscape architect and designers BMD.

The distribution centre is on the 1,425-acre Alconbury Weald site – a major new community and enterprise zone being built in phases which will eventually feature thousands of new homes, along with commercial and industrial developments, community facilities, schools, local and district shopping centres, and sports and leisure spaces.

It is being masterminded by Urban & Civic.

The warehouse is Use Class B8 (Storage or distribution) which can benefit from permitted development opportunities to change use without requiring a full planning application.
