Work is progressing well on a West Bridgford housing scheme that will bring 71 exemplar low carbon new homes to the area.

BSP is providing civil and structural engineering services for the development and has been involved in plans for the scheme since 2018.

Abbey Central, located on Abbey Road, is an innovative residential development with a range of two to four-bedroom stunning new homes that are fit for the future. It will include new affordable homes to enable more families and individuals to step onto the housing ladder in West Bridgford.

The development is poised to redefine sustainable urban family living for those with a commitment to even greater sustainability. All homes in this development have been meticulously designed, incorporating modern technology to facilitate a ‘gas-less’ community and low energy living.

The development integrates various cutting-edge technologies and systems, enabling a significant reduction on CO2 levels, compared with current building regulations on standard houses across the country.

The 71 homes will also feature electric car charging, bike store, wildlife habitats, new trees and will meet central government’s no fossil fuels policy on new build housing – ahead of its 2025 deadline.

BSP’s involvement

BSP director Tony Goddard said: “BSP is very pleased to be involved in this low carbon West Bridgford housing scheme. It will set the standards for future development. It is great to have been involved from the initial investigations though to the final detailed design and construction for what Rushcliffe Borough Council sees as a legacy development scheme coming from reuse of a brownfield site.”

The site was sold for redevelopment by Rushcliffe Borough Council to Peveril Homes and Stagfield Group.

James Smith Managing Director of Peveril Homes said: “As the site will be completely gas-free, we are continuing to innovate our product offering. Our partnership with Stagfield Group assists us to evolve with each house type designed from the ground up to accommodate modern living and the ambitious carbon net goals set by Rushcliffe Borough Council.”

Kevin Hard, Managing Director of Stagfield Group added: “Working with our partner Peveril Homes, we are excited to build and release these Low Carbon Homes which will have lowered running costs, quality design and modern living.”
