BSP Consulting is the civil and structural engineer on an upcoming scheme at a SEND school in Lincolnshire.

The company previously worked with Willmott Dixon on a Lincolnshire County Council-funded project to create a new teaching block at Tulip Academy in Spalding.

The work included the creation of improved teaching facilities, a dedicated hygiene suite, and group and calm room spaces. Along with a renovated medical space and an improved staffroom, new IT, life skills and social recreation spaces were created and enhanced parking was added.

This £7.8m development was officially opened in July 2023.

Now BSP has been appointed on a second scheme at the school, which will deliver another new block. Featuring classrooms, dining and assembly halls, sensory rooms, library, a fitness room, kitchens, offices and other facilities, the two-storey development is being funded by the Department of Education.

An existing building will be demolished at the Waterside Campus in Neville Avenue to make way for the new premises.

Tulip Academy Spalding was formed following the merging of the Priory and Garth Schools in 2021 and caters for children and young adults aged two to 19 with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.

It is situated across two campuses in the market town of Spalding, Lincolnshire, and takes young people from the town and surrounding areas.

Experience

“BSP Consulting has been involved in a number of education schemes, helping to improve the learning environments and facilities for young people across the East Midlands and beyond,” said Dan Hinchley, BSP Consulting’s BIM Manager.

“Having worked at Tulip Academy previously, we are very pleased to be involved in the designs for the current project being developed at this SEND school in Lincolnshire.”

The latest project at Tulip Academy is being delivered by contractor Tilbury Douglas. The architect is CPMG.
