Stamford Buildings Conversion Leicester

The Stamford Buildings on Stamford Street in Leicester is a conversion of a characterful Victorian mill building to accommodate 80 student apartments.

The design team worked with the existing building, the large windows and high ceilings produce exciting and unusual apartments with bright and airy spaces.

Stamford Buildings is a high quality conversion of a three-storey building with a basement and dormer roof space that provides some of the best student rooms available.

BSP Consulting carried out a visual inspection of the building to highlight any areas of defects that may affect the scheme and recommend any additional intrusive investigations as considered necessary.

BSP assessed the existing structure and provided support details for any new openings to loadbearing walls and areas of proposed construction. We assessed the floor structure to support non-loadbearing partitions as required and provided design calculations for building control.

The basement floor structure, existing timber boarding and battens were removed to accommodate a new waterproofing solution.

The bedroom areas and entrance lobby were designed on a Mezzanine floor.

New timber staircases within the building provide access to all floor and roof space flats. A new dormer construction replaced the existing third floor dormer.

The lift shaft was retained and made good to accept a new lift car. The lift pit was reduced in level to accommodate the lift suppliers requirements in accordance with BSP Consulting’s structural engineering details.
