The oldest surviving hosiery factory in the East Midlands has been regenerated to provide an inspiring workplace for creative entrepreneurs. The grade II listed, 1860s former Charnwood Hosiery factory in Rutland Street, Leicester, had been derelict but now provides ten studios and is home to a growing community of creative businesses.
The Makers’ Yard scheme has won numerous awards since the project was completed, including a Leicester Civic Society Award for restoration. It is hoped the project will spark off similar developments in a new creative quarter for the city.
