June 30, 2026

Civil and structural engineering specialists, BSP Consulting, is celebrating award success after winning the Residential Project of the Year Award for Hillview Children’s Home at the Constructing Excellence Midlands East Awards, in partnership with Scope Construction, Leicester City Council and A+G Architects.

The new, two storey children’s home is the first purpose-built specialist accommodation in Leicester for over 40 years. It provides new living accommodation, communal facilities and ancillary accommodation including five en-suite bedrooms, as well as two self-contained flats, a waking staff office and a staff sleeping room to support up to five young people between the ages of seven and 17.

The £1.8m residential facility included a contribution of £800,000 from the Department for Education and opened in November 2025. It has a games room with ‘street art’ wall and a spacious and secure garden to the rear.

The building also features a range of energy efficiency measures including roof-mounted photo-voltaic panels, fully electric heating, air source heat pumps and EV charging points, helping the scheme to achieve an EPC A Rating.

Leicester City Council appointed Loughborough-based Scope Construction to deliver the project and BSP Consulting was the civil and structural engineer working alongside Scope with local designers A+G Architects.

Maz Patel, Managing Director of Scope Construction, said: “The Residential Project of the Year Award from Constructing Excellence is great recognition for everyone who demonstrated excellent team work throughout. Scope takes pride in helping people and communities to flourish through the built environment. Our project team delivered another first-class project for the council and the local community, which gives young people the opportunity to thrive.”

During its construction, in partnership with the council’s care team, Scope delivered a work experience programme for care leavers to build skills and confidence in young people, introducing them to career opportunities within the construction sector.

BSP Consulting director Carol Ell said: “To support a significant local Leicestershire project with civil and structural engineering services and be part of the team delivering first new Leicester children’s home in more than four decades was fantastic.

“As a local East Midlands civil and structural engineering company with an office in Leicester, BSP Consulting was proud to have been involved in such an important scheme that will provide important facilities to care for children who can’t live with their birth families.”
