As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting careers in engineering and working within our local communities, the BSP Consulting team returned to the Higher and Degree Level Apprenticeship Fair in January.
The annual event at West Bridgford School forms part of its post 16 careers support and is specifically designed for young learners wanting to embark on Higher or Degree Level Apprenticeships. It provides opportunities for young people to meet apprenticeship providers and find out more information about future careers.
BSP’s Gareth Ellis and Hayden King joined a packed room for the day talking to students about BSP’s civil and structural engineering projects, future careers and what things they could do to improve their chances of getting a placement within a company.
Gareth Ellis commented: “It was a great event, really well organised by the school and well attended. We came along last year and were able to give one of the students some work experience, so were invited back again and very happy to be involved. The students were all confident and polite and had done their homework about BSP, so had clear ideas about what they wanted to do, which was great.”
BSP Consulting regularly offer apprenticeships and have welcomed several over the years – recently promoted Director James Payne began his career at BSP as an apprentice and Charlotte Taylor, currently an Apprentice Structural Technician in our Derby office, has nearly completed her degree qualification.
Gareth concluded: “Offering Apprenticeships is so important and an increasingly popular route for many young people. The benefits to both employers and employees are great and it’s an excellent opportunity to be able to encourage more people into this industry, which is already suffering a skills shortage. Events like this are an ideal way to promote apprenticeships as a route into civil engineering and wider construction sector careers.”
