BSP is celebrating an award after a scheme at Wyggeston Hospital, Leicester, was named a regional winner in the LABC Awards 2023.
BSP engineers were involved in the civil and structural engineering aspects for the £4.75m Wyggeston Hospital Hub and Cottages development which has just been awarded the accolade of Best Purpose Built Accommodation in the annual awards.
LABC (Local Authority Building Control) is the national organisation that represents local authority building control departments in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The successful scheme will now go forward to the national finals, held on 19th January 2024 at Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London.
BSP director Paul Elphick said: “It’s great news that the Wyggeston Hospital scheme has received this accolade and that BSP is celebrating another award.
“This is not the first time that the project has been hailed as something special. Last year the Wyggeston scheme won Large Residential Scheme of the Year at the ProCon Leicestershire Awards.
“Congratulations to everyone involved in this development. It’s an outstanding scheme and BSP Consulting is proud to have been part of the team that delivered this project.”
The project team included Corporate Architecture Ltd, S&S Contracting Ltd, Wyggestons, Andrew Granger & Co Ltd, BSP Consulting, ADM Surveyors, and SVM Building Services Design
Leicester Building Control Partnership was the local authority.
Founded as an almshouse charity in 1513, Wyggeston’s Hospital has been providing sheltered housing, support and care for vulnerable older people in Leicester for more than 500 years.
This latest development included adding a new administrative and entertainment hub and additional housing to the existing extra-care accommodation. Eight new apartments and six cottages were created. A newly landscaped scheme was also provided for residents to enjoy.
Wyggestons is located on Hinckley Road, Leicester, and the scheme was completed in January 2022.
