Civil, structural and transportation engineering firm BSP Consulting has successfully passed the BSI BIM Level 2 audit, making it one of a limited number of consultants in the industry to have secured the BSI Kitemark certification.
The audit of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities of BSP Consulting confirmed the organisation has achieved Appointed Party (TIER 2) Structural, Civil and Transportation Engineering Consultancy complying with BIM in accordance with ISO 19650-1:2018, ISO 19650-2:2018, UK National Annex and BS 1192-4.
“BSP has had a commitment to BIM for almost ten years now, making it an essential goal within the business when we invested in BIM Authoring software in 2011,” explained Dan Hinchley, BSP’s BIM Manager.
“BSP not only realised the importance of adopting ISO 19650 and working to a BIM Level 2 standard, but also to gain the accreditation of working to a BIM Level 2 standard by a UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) regulated auditor such as BSI.
“We are delighted to have now passed the BSI BIM Level 2 audit. It’s a stringent audit which confirms the Building Information Modelling capabilities of the BSP team and gives reassurance to our clients.
“This certification is particularly timely, as it’s becoming increasingly mandatory for delivery partners on a number of frameworks to be BIM Level 2 compliant to meet sustainability requirements. BSP’s Level 2 certification will be important for our contractor partners too as it highlights the fact that they also have compliancy in their supply chains, which should act strongly in their favour when bidding for contracts.”
More than half of the 65-strong BSP team is involved in technical delivery that may involve BIM. The company has worked on a significant number of BIM Level 2 projects to date, including schools, a mixed-use town centre redevelopment, and public sector buildings.
BSP Consulting, which has its head office in Nottingham and branches in Derby, Leicester and Sheffield, was founded in 1999 and is one of the largest independent civil, structural and transportation engineering firms in the East Midlands, providing a comprehensive range of consultancy services in civil, structural, geotechnical, transportation and environmental engineering to all sectors of the construction community, from architects, project managers and contractors to developers and estate agents.
Structures and BIM Director Carl Hilton said: “From its infancy, BSP embraced and invested in BIM as we could see its potential not only in construction but beyond in the facilities management sector. BIM is now developed to become a powerful tool that will only become more important in construction in the coming years as main contractors start to embrace it more, in their costing, site programming and operation. Offering BIM to our clients is an important factor in the growth and development of BSP Consulting and achieving the BSI Kitemark is a key gateway in our journey.”
BSP Consulting is currently working on a number of BIM Level 2 public sector projects, which include a council hub and schools in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.
