BSP were proud to be involved with playing a key role in developing Beeston Town CentreDavid Sumner,
Managing Director, BSP Consulting
BSP Consulting played a key role in developing Beeston Town Centre, providing civil and structural engineering services for the £3 million scheme which involved the rebuilding and refurbishment of the Beeston Town Centre Square in Nottingham.
In 2008 Broxtowe Borough Council identified Beeston Town Centre as under-performing economically with the existing retail units in need of substantial investment to fulfil the needs of modern day retailers.
This project included the partial demolition and refurbishment of the existing shopping centre, originally a 1970s concrete and brick structure which hadn’t been refurbished for over three decades other than the addition of an ugly mirrored glass façade to part of the Square Elevation in the 1980’s.
The catalyst for remodelling the shopping centre has been the construction of Line 2 of Nottingham’s new Rapid Transit Tram development (NET), which now complete stops at the scheme via a new tram and bus interchange.
An extensive redevelopment and refurbishment of the existing town centre shopping mall that sits adjacent to the tram interchange.
Construction was carefully managed to maintain trading for key existing retailers whilst the scheme was developed.
The project includes 93,000 sq ft of retail and leisure accommodation.
Lettings have been given to B&M Retail, Wilkinsons, Argos, Peacocks, Costa Coffee & Pure Gym.
The biggest engineering challenge was undertaking the construction in a live and busy town centre location adjacent to the local Tram line.
As the project was part refurbishment and part new build we needed to ensure the seamless integration of existing develoment with the new construction.
