Castleward Primary School in Derby has been granted planning permission for an £8m new school as part of the extensive Castleward regeneration scheme in Derby.
BSP Consulting has been involved in the £100 million housing-led Castleward development near the city centre from concept.
Now the company has been appointed as civil and structural engineer for a new primary school at the site, which will provide 315 pupil places and a 39-place nursery.
Procured through Scape Group’s Regional Construction framework and delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction, Castleward Primary School in Derby is due to get under way on site in the summer of 2020, with completion expected by August 2021.
The new school, which is being built on a brownfield site, has been designed by Lungfish Architects and is a mix of one and two-storey blocks, incorporating innovative play spaces on the rooftop areas and terraces.
It will feature 12 classrooms, a shared hall and studio library spaces, along with ancillary facilities.
BSP Consulting are providing a master planning consultancy role of the whole Castleward site, we are providing civil, structural and geotechnical engineering services.

This major regeneration project will breathe new life into a key area of Derby and will help to create hundreds of homes, thousands of square foot of commercial retail space, community areas and now a new school. The work will take place in five phases spanning up to 20 years.
In 2014 Castleward became the country’s second development project to recieve a BREEAM accreditation for its overall environmental sustainability ‘BREEAM’ Communities’.
Castleward won the ‘Regeneration Award’ at the 2014 East Midlands fbe Awards.
