Urban high wire attraction Altitude44 has been named as Construction Project of the Year under £5m at the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2020.
Jointly nominated by BSP Consulting and architects and sports business consultants LK2, the Skegness scheme is the tallest urban high wire attraction in the UK and opened to the public during the summer of 2019.
This is the second award presented to Altitude44 in less than six months – in October it won the Non-Residential Project of the Year Award at the fbe East Midlands Awards 2019.
BSP business development director Jef Todd said: “Engineers at BSP Consulting are very proud to have worked on this unique scheme.
“Building on Skegness foreshore brought technical challenges in terms of its location and its proximity to the sea. It’s very much a sand-based area and practical, yet affordable, measures were needed to avoid sinking or leaning issues.
“We are thrilled that Altitude44 has been presented with a second award and would like to congratulate the whole team involved in this scheme.”
Altitude44 was developed by Magna Vitae, with KristallTurn the main contractor. It features four giant-sized platforms within which sit 44 fun obstacles of all different shapes and sizes, and which have a distinctly seaside theme. A new café has also been created, as part of the attraction, which has been created near the seafront at Skegness, on Grand Parade.
The attraction aims to boost the economy of Skegness, improve the health and fitness levels of the residents of the town, and encourage more visitors to the resort, especially out of season.
The Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2020 winners were announced at a ceremony at DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln on 6th February 2020.
