BSP delivers structural, civil and geotechnical design services for new build and refurbishment projects at all levels of education, from schools to further education colleges and universities. Each of these client groups has their own individual requirements which have to be recognised and include different Building Bulletin standards such as 98 for secondary schools and 99 for primary schools. These outline the methodology of delivering vibrant, functional and attractive learning environments and are essential documents for designers to understand. Many projects are completed to high BREEAM levels.
The Education Funding Agency and Skills Funding Agency expect projects to demonstrate value for money and for designers and contractors to work to defined cost parameters. Many projects are now delivered through contractor-led frameworks or architect and project management-led teams and BSP has experience of working within all these different procurement routes as part of an integrated supply chain to achieve the best value solution for each client.
This process also involves very close consultation with different stakeholders who have inputs into education projects and these also have to be carefully integrated into the design process from a well-articulated client brief.
