A luxurious new 60 bed care home in Burton Waters, Lincolnshire opened to residents on the 20th February 2015. The new care home has been specifically designed to provide high-quality residential and nursing care to the elderly, including those individuals living with a dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease. Located opposite the beautiful Burton Waters Marina.
Tennyson Wharf Care Home has a dedicated area which they call Memory Lane Community. This provides high quality care for people with dementia. Within their community, memory boxes with small reminders and items such as photographs will be used to help each person reminisce. Features such as adapted crockery and tableware, sensory gardens with low-risk walkways and activity kitchens also enable people to engage in life’s everyday simple tasks and pleasures. Essential to the homely feel is the enhanced relationship of trust they build with family, friends and residents.
Some key challenges and solutions that BSP Consulting faced as engineers were as follows:
The Development was within flood zone 3 which required a flood risk assessment and mitigation measures to provide safe access/egress to and from the development.
The Foul drainage connected into an adopted vacuum main which required specialist knowledge and understanding.
The foundation solution required vibro stone column improved ground.
