Slack & Parr makes custom precision gear pumps and has been based in Kegworth for more than a century.
A market leader in high precision engineering, supplying gear metering pumps, rotary hydraulic flow dividers and industrial dosing pumps throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide.
Due to their success their was a need to expand their existing car part production facility.
BSP Consulting have been part of the design team providing civil and structural engineering services for the proposed mixed use scheme.
The 5300m² design and build project was designed by Staniforth Architects and Project Managed by Benchmark Properties.
BSP integrated with the team at regular design team meetings and attended regular co-ordination sessions with the architect and other sub-contracted designers to ensure the project was a success.
This new £3.5m precision engineering facility, Slack & Parr Kegworth is on Long Lane in the north-west Leicestershire village.
Key challenges and engineering solutions
Both a 3 span standard portal frame structure and a 3 span “hit and miss” portal frame structure were considered.
The former offers a slightly lighter overall structure, the latter offers more clear internal factory floor space.
The client chose the latter option as the design solution to maximise the floor space.
