BSP have worked on over 200 projects for Rolls Royce throughout the UK.Clive Roddick,
Founding Director - BSP Consulting
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, opened a new, state-of-the-art Apprentice Academy, at its Learning and Career Development Centre in Derby.
The facility provides capacity for Rolls-Royce to double the number of apprentices it trains in the field of precision engineering for Rolls-Royce.
The additional apprentices will find work in the supply chain, providing an additional source of skilled labour to the UK engineering and manufacturing industry.
This new 3-storey, Rolls-Royce Apprentice Academy, Derby building is an extension to their main existing training facility and is linked via an internal ‘street’ which provides circulation and break-out space for the occupants.
The facility includes a 1,200 square metre workshop area featuring the latest machines, which enables apprentices to be trained on the same equipment they will be using in the workplace.
A “workshop” allows for the creation of mock assembly line environments, which can be quickly reconfigured as techniques and training requirements change.
This is linked to a suite of teaching spaces, many of which look directly into the workshop, facilitating that direct relationship between theory and practicality.
Apprentices have been learning about the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 aero engine, which powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
BSP Consulting worked closely with Rolls-Royce, Frank Shaw Associates and Clegg Construction to translate Rolls-Royce’s design concepts into an affordable and deliverable project.
