“The new, larger building will help the School to satisfy the current waiting list, which has been a source of frustration for many of our Parents”,Mr Gareth ,
Headmaster, Ratcliffe College
Ratcliffe College invested £4.5m in a new, state-of-the-art building in the safe, secure and beautiful setting of the College’s 200-acre estate in North Leicestershire on the A46.
As part of the new building, twelve classrooms are located over two floors, as well as a dedicated technology and languages centre, science and food technology laboratory, arts and crafts room, performing arts centre, library and central assembly hall for the young pupils.
The new building has been developed to be sympathetic to the original school building, opened in 1847, which itself was designed by the famous architect of the Houses of Parliament, Augustus Pugin – whose descendant, David Franklin, is coincidentally the architect of today’s splendid building! Ratcliffe College Preparatory School, like the original College, has been designed around a ‘Quad’, ensuring that the new classrooms are bathed in natural light.
HRH Duke of Gloucester came to officially open the Preparatory School. Ratcliffe College’s Catholic ethos is at the centre of all that they do at the Preparatory School, enabling the children to feel valued, safe and secure; inspiring them with a passion for learning and a heart for caring for each other.
The College’s Preparatory School, which was crowned Building of the Year by the Charnwood Borough Council in 2015, was created to accommodate an increasing number of students aged between 3 and 11 and provide them a unique, modern environment in which to learn and grow.
Planning was then granted for Ratcliffe College’s brand-new second sports hall.
The 1,460 sq m sports hall is the second sports hall at Ratcliffe College and enables the College, in particular the Preparatory School, to develop further its growing reputation for sporting excellence.
The new £2.8m two-storey fitness suite at Ratcliffe College, provides an extension to its existing sports hall.
BSP Consulting provided civil, structural and transportation engineering services, undertaking the works within the confines of a large operating school.
These new facilities are shared with a number of local county sports associations as well as sports clubs and schools, supporting community sport as well as Ratcliffe College students.
The main engineering challenge on both projects was undertaking the works within the confines of a large operating school.
