Glenvale Primary School Northamptonshire

BSP provided civil and structural engineering services for the new-build 420-place school in Glenvale Park, a 3,000-home sustainable urban extension to the north of Wellingborough.

The steel frame primary school is a 2400m2 two-form entry school for up to 420 pupils, plus a 75-place nursery and community Centre. The new a new school, for pupils aged from five to 11, features classrooms, offices, a studio, main hall, resource/IT hub, staff rooms and covered play area.

The new primary school, community Centre, nursery and play equipment provides a key hub for the new community, offering purpose-built facilities that can enable the delivery of excellent learning opportunities for local children and benefit the wider community.

It has been built to a BREEAM Very Good standard, with PV panels on the roof, energy monitoring systems, a design that results in the building being deemed carbon negative.

Glenvale Park delivers a number of new community assets, from new affordable homes to job opportunities. For every pound spent on the construction of Glenvale Park, the development will generate £2.03 of social value for the local community, totalling more than £1.6bn. This is in addition to nearly 900 jobs and apprenticeships created during construction and £1.1bn of community assets on the site, including two new primary schools. Glenvale Park will have a total economic impact, locally and nationally, of almost £1.5bn.

BSP Consulting used BIM (Building Information Modelling) on the scheme.
