A new £9.1m specialist college campus to provide modern teaching facilities for Motor Vehicle, Service Engineering, Construction, Floristry, Horticulture, Environmental Industries, Foundation Learning and a new multi purpose sports hall and 3G pitch.
The Brooksby Campus, located between Melton Mowbray and Leicester is in the heart of the countryside. This rural setting provided the base for the concept and design within a sensitive planning area.
The campus was part of a £27.7 million investment bringing state of the art facilities to the college.
In contrast to the historic and rural location the college wanted a modern contemporary facility to attract students for the broadening curriculum that can be offered. With a number of constraints from flooding, railways, mature trees and archaeology the site investigation became a useful tool.
A triangular field was identified between the Grade II listed Brooksby Hall and Hall Farm as being the best site for the campus. The new scheme would also link the existing teaching facilities and create a ribbon development.
The team worked with the College to design not just classrooms but environments allowing students to learn both inside buildings and externally with outdoor learning provision.
A SUDs drainage solution involving swales, filter margins and raingardens were used on the site.
We worked closely with the client and design team, working through different options from start to finish, contributing to the planning and development process.
We provided a robust and efficient design to provide the most cost effective solution. The job ran smoothly from start to finish.
