Great partnership with Active TunnellingClive Roddick
The new hospital was being built to replace the adjacent, existing facility which would be demolished once the new one was opened.
Active Tunnelling was employed as a specialist contractor to lay the outfall drains into the main trunk roads outside the perimeter of the site which were designated ‘red routes’ – meaning the roads were priority routes for ambulances and could not be disrupted. For the foul outfall we had to install a timber-heading for a 13m drive under Eaton Road hitting the crown of the existing concrete surrounded brick culvert.
The new £250 million Alder Hey Children’s Hospital at Aintree, near Liverpool was completely rebuilt on neighbouring Springfield Park to integrate both hospital and park environments for the therapeutic benefit of the children requiring treatment.
