Work has started on site at the £14 million Vulcan Works project to create a new managed workspace facility for creative enterprises in Northampton.
The Northampton Borough Council project will breathe new life into the Grade II listed former iron works factory and additionally create a new block for office, studio and managed workshops.
BSP is providing civil, structural, transport and environmental engineering services, as well as ground investigation work, for the development.
Director Carl Hilton said: “BSP Consulting has been working on this site since 2014 and it’s good to see that plans have come to fruition and that construction and restoration work is now under way. This is a key site in Northampton’s Cultural Quarter and will provide attractive space for businesses to set up and develop.”
Contractor Stepnell has been appointed to construct and deliver the new workspace facility, which will create 59 lettable units aimed at start-up and growing businesses. Architect for the scheme is Purcell.
The project is due to be completed by autumn next year.
