A town square regeneration project in Leicestershire has been completed following a £2.8m investment.
The new-look Marlborough Square in Coalville was officially launched in a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council, Councillor Ray Morris.
BSP Consulting was appointed by the council to undertake the civil and structural engineering aspects of the revamp, which was delivered by Danaher & Walsh.
The project, described by one councillor as the biggest investment in Coalville in a century, involved taking up an area formerly used as a car park and replacing it with new paving. Alterations were also made to the traffic flow in the area. The square will be used for a weekly Friday market, as well as special events organised by the council.
Director at BSP Consulting, Paul Elphick, said: “This town square regeneration project in Coalville has improved the area and created a great space for the weekly market and other events.
“Our role included providing civil, structural and transport engineering expertise for the development.
“BSP Consulting has worked on a wide range of public realm regeneration schemes and it’s good to see this one has now been finished and is providing the community in Coalville with new facilities.”
