BSP Consulting has been appointed civil and structural engineer on a student accommodation scheme after being part of the team that successfully steered the project to gaining planning permission, subject to a section 106 agreement.
The £17 million, nine-storey, 244-bed student accommodation will be built on Agard Street, Derby – next to the copper-clad University of Derby law department. BSP was part of the team that built the award-winning development, One Friar Gate Square, which now houses the Law School. Engineers at BSP are also currently working on modifying this existing building, which the company originally designed in 2008, to meet the current needs of the university’s law faculty.
“The new student accommodation building will assist in the redevelopment of this end of the city,” said BSP director Carl Hilton. “And we are pleased to be associated with what is a landmark building and to continue our relationship with the developer Jensco.”
Work is due to get underway shortly on the site of Agard Court student accommodation, which is being developed by Jensco (Derby) Ltd.
