Founding director of BSP, Dave Sumner, has retired after a long and distinguished career in the industry.
A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the highest grade of membership of the ICE, Dave founded BSP Consulting (then known as the Breakwell Sumner Partnership) in 1999 with Martin Breakwell, Clive Roddick and Mark Rayers.
He held the position of managing director from then until January 2021, when he operated as a non-executive director before retiring in September 2021.
Carl Hilton has been appointed as managing director.
BSP director Mark Rayers said: “On behalf of my fellow directors and our whole team, I would like to thank Dave for his hard work, professionalism and commitment to the company.
Dave played a key role in shaping and guiding the business from its inception in 1999 to today, where we are one of the largest independent civil and structural engineering companies in the East Midlands.
“I’d also like to congratulate Carl on his appointment as managing director of BSP Consulting, as we begin a new chapter in the life of the company.
Carl has been with us for more than 16 years and has a wealth of experience in the sector and has consistently demonstrated his ability to successfully contribute to developing the business over the years.
“We wish both Dave and Carl all the very best for the future.”
Exciting future
Carl, who will continue to head the structures team in the Nottingham office of BSP Consulting, said: “We have a great team here at BSP Consulting and I am proud and excited to have been appointed as managing director, and look forward to the future as we continue our mission statement to offer first-class civil and structural engineering services throughout the construction sector.”
The company, which has offices in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Sheffield, is an award-winning civil and structural engineering firm that offers services throughout the construction sector.
Operating across the UK, the BSP team is also skilled in transport engineering, along with geotechnical and environmental engineering.
BSP Consulting currently has a healthy order book across all sectors of the business and is looking forward to continuing to work with the many clients the company has acquired over more than 20 years.
