Civil and structural engineering services for a new public sector hub scheme in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, are being provided by BSP Consulting.
Willmott Dixon won a £7m contract to build the base, which will be shared by East Lindsey District Council and Boston College.
Procured using the Scape National Major Works framework, the new state-of-the-art shared space is being built on the former Horncastle College site off the town’s Mareham Road and is expected to be completed in summer 2022.
The building is being constructed adopting a steel frame and a composite reinforced concrete slab.
It will feature council offices, along with accommodation for a number of public sector partners, plus further education facilities to enable adult students and apprentices to access education including university level courses, without having to leave East Lindsey.
A large new council chamber which will be available for community events will also be part of the building.
The public sector hub scheme was designed by architects Bond Bryan.
Sustainability
Sustainability features at the heart of the development.
To support its 2030 ‘Now or Never’ sustainability strategy and reduce carbon emissions, Willmott Dixon will be implementing Energy SynergyTM on the project, which is the contractor’s approach to addressing the performance gap.
The contractor will work alongside East Lindsey District Council once the building is occupied to truly understand how the building is performing and how it differs from the assumptions made during design.
Throughout the project, the contractor will ensure 14% of the contract value is invested back into the region.
This will be delivered through community initiatives, such as projects with local university students, careers events with Boston College, as well as using local social enterprises, local businesses and local labour.
Director at BSP Consulting, Carl Hilton, said: “We are very pleased to be working with Willmott Dixon and others on the team to deliver this exciting project which will bring new further education and public sector facilities to Horncastle. It’s great that work has now started on site and we look forward to seeing the new building take shape.”
