The leisure offering includes a state of the art multi-screen cinema, a new gym, up to ten new restaurants and approximately 25 shops. It will provide 82 apartments, 11 townhouses and a brand new landscaped public area for visitors to enjoy.

The development will also enhance transport connectivity within Lichfield, delivering a new bus station for the city near to the railway station, as well as 500 safe and accessible car parking spaces making the development an important new hub right in the centre of historic Staffordshire city.

BSP is structural, civil and transportation engineer for the planned development, which is currently under consideration by Lichfield District Council.

As well as handling the core civil, structural and drainage aspects, BSP has been involved extensively in the traffic and transportation designs to accomodate the new bus station, including liaison with bus operators and other key stakeholders.

“This proposed redevelopment for Lichfield is a major town centre regeneration scheme, which has embraced the skills of a number of BSP engineers, who specialise in different areas of expertise”, said BSP managing director David Sumner.

The Friarsgate development aims to enhance the Leisure, retail and residential offering for the area with a scheme that preserves and respects the unique history and culture of Lichfield.

The scheme was proposed by Development Securities (Lichfield) Limited a wholly owned subsidary of U+I Group PLC.

The wholesale redevelopment was in a significant area of the city centre and design integration needed to work with the existing buildings, theatres and infrastructure.
