The scheme is being built by sister companies Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. It is one of the first developments in the country to achieve top marks in the Built For Life 12 accreditation, which recognises excellence in design quality, safety and community.
BSP Consulting has been working on the scheme to create a new community of homes on the site of the former colliery at Cotgrave in Nottinghamshire.
BSP’s role includes designing a number of junction upgrades, a new roundabout and T-Junction access to the site, sustainable drainage systems, as well as a new pedestrian footbridge over the Grantham Canal.
Some key challenges and solutions on the project were that, significant earthworks designs were required including a close working relationship with the remediation and earthworks specialist. Deep drainage and foul water pumping required specialist shaft design works.
As part of the commitment to the HCA funding, the team During British Science week, BSP got involved with helping to inspire youngsters to think about civil and structural engineering as a career at the local schools.
