It’s fantastic to see these houses completed, providing high quality, affordable accommodation for our local residents.Cllr Nigel Barker,
Leader of North East Derbyshire District Council
Partners involved in the completion of new homes in North East Derbyshire met to celebrate the opening of Ellen Gardens in Holmewood. BSP Consulting was the civil and structural engineer on the affordable housing development which has provided a mix of high-quality shared ownership homes and supported living accommodation.
Ellen Gardens was delivered by emh through its Strategic Partnership Programme with Homes England, and in partnership with North East Derbyshire District Council who made a financial contribution to the scheme, and development partners Tanbry Construction.
Other members of the team working alongside BSP Consulting included architects brp and employer’s agent Turner & Townsend.
The homes are built on land which formerly housed a disused care provider’s office, which was demolished to make way for this modern residential development.
Ellen Gardens was designed to maximise the potential of the site while also addressing local housing needs and integrating support services for the community.
The site is now home to seven, two and three-bedroomed houses, and a block of 11 supported living apartments and a dedicated care office known as ‘Ellen House’.
This development is part of emh’s commitment to regenerating disused sites to provide affordable homes where they are needed and revitalise local communities.
Engineering Challenge
Due to the presence of numerous mature trees and the prevailing cohesive strata then a piled foundation option was required with suitably detailed heave precautions.
