A housing scheme involving BSP Consulting has received a ProCon Leicestershire Award shortlisting.
The Villers at Whetstone near Blaby, just outside Leicester, has been named as a finalist in the Large Residential Scheme of the Year category in the 2024 awards.
BSP was the civil and structural engineer on the development, delivered by emh and developer Lovell Partnerships. Other members of the team included BRP Architects and employer’s agent John Lester Partnership.
The £11m development, situated on The Whittle Estate, Henson Close in Whetstone, features 78 homes of 23 different house types. It was designed to cater for the living needs of various demographics and includes one-bedroom wheelchair accessible flats, two-bedroom dementia-friendly bungalows and two to four-bedroom family houses and bungalows.
Some 39 homes were built for shared ownership, 27 for social rent and 12 for supported living.
Brownfield site
The housing development, completed in January 2024, was created on a former industrial brownfield site known as Henson Park and originally part of the Whittle Industrial Estate.
It was delivered by emh group as part of its strategic partnership agreement with Homes England, and in partnership with Blaby District Council and delivery partner Lovell Partnerships.
A wildlife corridor and wildlife planting to encourage biodiversity were also key parts of the scheme.
BSP associate director Monika Anszperger said: “It is great news that this scheme at Whetstone has received a ProCon Leicestershire Award shortlisting.
“The development has proved very popular and has transformed a former brownfield site into a desirable place to live. BSP is proud to have delivered the civil and structural engineering aspects of the scheme.”
This year’s Procon Leicestershire Awards are the 21st awards organised by the property and construction network.
The dinner and awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 14th November at The King Power Stadium, Leicester.
