BSP Consulting has been appointed the civil and structural engineer on a new waterside housing scheme near Huntingdon.

The £18m development features 94 homes and includes a pedestrian boardwalk.

A mix of one, two and three-bed properties, the apartments and houses are being built on the site of the former F Vindis and Sons Ltd garage in Low Road, Fenstanton.

Some 26 properties in the development will be affordable homes.

Detailed designs are currently being drawn up after Huntingdonshire District Council gave the go-ahead for the scheme, with work expected on site in the autumn.

BSP MD Carl Hilton said: “We are very pleased to have been appointed to help deliver this new waterside housing scheme. The site was previously allocated as an area for residential development but was removed from the draft Local Plan following flooding concerns. This latest scheme overcomes any potential issues by including raised floor levels, undercroft parking and an attractive pedestrian boardwalk.

“The civil and structural engineering team at BSP Consulting are looking forward to seeing this development take shape.”

BSP has been appointed by Burmor Construction, based in Market Deeping, to undertake the civil and structural engineering elements of the project, being built on a 2.76-hectare brownfield site near St Ives.

Director at Burmor Construction Luke Boekestyn said: “Burmor Construction chose to engage with BSP Consulting on this project in recognition of their expertise in residential developments and realising flood risk. Support from a well-established and well-resourced engineering practice is key for delivering the project timescales.”

 Boardwalk

The development will feature a large pond to allow for water storage on the site, with a pedestrian boardwalk running alongside it and with links to the properties. It will also feature charging points for electric vehicles.

All two and three-bed houses will have two parking spaces and all one-bed flats have a single parking space. In total 137 parking spaces will be provided across the site including two spaces for visitors and a space for a pool car.

New trees will be planted on the site and there will be a net gain in biodiversity.
