Plans have been passed for a new Nottingham tennis complex.
BSP is highways engineer on the scheme, which will create four covered padel tennis courts on unused land off Cattle Market Road and Iremonger Road next to Notts County’s Meadow Lane Ground.
The courts are being built by the football club on land to the rear of the Kop stand to the north-west of the stadium.
The scheme has been designed by CPMG Architects, with Grace Machin as planning consultant, Influence as landscape architect, and CPW as mechanical engineer.
Along with the tennis courts, which will be floodlit, the development also includes car parking for more than 50 vehicles, plus electric charging points, and a cycle shelter.
BSP director Mark Rayers said: “Engineers at BSP Consulting are very pleased to be part of the team creating a new Nottingham tennis complex. Our highways team provided expert advice and information for the planning application, which has now been approved by Nottingham City Council.
“Padel tennis is a growing sport and this scheme looks set to expand the sporting facilities at Notts County’s Meadow Land Ground.”
Padel tennis
Padel is a form of tennis that is played mainly in a doubles format on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court and can be played in groups of mixed ages and abilities. The rules are broadly the same as tennis, although players serve under hand and the walls are used as part of the game with the ball allowed to bounce off them.
It is one of the fastest growing sports across continental Europe.
The courts being created by Notts County will be enclosed with a rebound wall that is used in the sport, with the games to be played on a synthetic turf surface.
