Unanimous approval has been received for 102 new homes in Derby.

Members of Derby City Council’s Planning Committee have given the thumbs up to the development of the site of a long-term vacant former police station in Osmaston.

Engineers at BSP Consulting provided the flood risk assessment and the drainage strategy to assist with the planning application for the scheme.

It was designed by Urban View Architecture, with Mialex as the planning consultants.

Mialex said: “Whilst there were of course many challenges to overcome (including design, parking provision, flood risk, and the relationship with nearby residential buildings), we engaged positively with the Planning and Design Team at Derby City Council and the result is an excellent development that will make an important contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the wider Osmaston area.”

The development by DCG Investments in Cotton Lane comprises 55 one-bedroom apartments and 47 two-bedroom apartments, along with 51 on-site car parking spaces, including six disabled persons’ parking spaces.

BSP’s role

BSP Consulting director Tony Goddard said: “This site has a culverted watercourse – Cotton Brook – which runs outside so we had to work very closely with Derby City Council to get agreement on how it was taken into account in the surface water strategy.

“Under croft car parking has been incorporated into the design to allow the drainage strategy to work.”

Other members of the team involved in the planning application included Markides Associates and E3P.
