Work is well under way on site for a new college training centre.
Lindum Group Peterborough is delivering a Green Skills Academy for the College of West Anglia (CWA) to support developing skills needs for green industries and technologies.
BSP Consulting is the civil and structural engineer for the project, which will expand learning and teaching facilities at CWA’s Wisbech campus.
Once complete this Autumn, the two-storey building – designed by architects YMD Boon – will feature three workshops, a multi-use studio, an office, staff facilities and storage.
Past projects
Engineers at BSP Consulting have worked on a wide range of education and training facilities over many years. Take a look at our capability statement and just some of the schemes we’ve worked on here.
BSP director Paul Elphick said: “We are very pleased that work is well under way on this new college training centre in Wisbech for the College of West Anglia.
“Lindum has been involved in a similar scheme at the college’s King’s Lynn campus and we are delighted to have been appointed as the civil and structural engineer for this development.
“We have worked on numerous projects with Lindum and we always value working with the Lindum team.”
Darren King, Managing Director of Lindum Peterborough, said: “Demand for ‘green’ skills training is already high in the local area as businesses move towards net zero carbon.
“The building will offer local people greater opportunities to access high quality net zero skills training for many years to come.”
College Principal David Pomfret said: “Having recently opened a smaller Green Skills Centre at our King’s Lynn Campus, this £4m centre really shows our commitment to meeting the carbon net zero needs of our region.
“With a major focus on renewable energies training, this centre itself will feature an air source heat pump and solar photovoltaics/battery storage, all of which will support teaching and learning within the academy.
“I am extremely grateful to the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Anglian Water @One Alliance, who are investing £2m each in the centre.
“It’s rare to have such direct private sector investment in further education college facilities. We will be working closely with the alliance to help shape the curriculum in response to current and future green skills needs.”
The project was directly awarded to Lindum in a compliant manner via Medium Works Framework which PAGABO manages on behalf of The Education Alliance.
Nine hundred students will have trained at the new Green Skills Academy, and an extra 30 teaching and course support jobs created, by 2045.
