Engineers at BSP Consulting prepared the flood risk assessment and drainage strategy for a development which will deliver new apartments in Ipswich.
The scheme, which features three blocks of one and two-bedroom homes, was recently approved by Ipswich Borough Council.
Also including 228 sqm space for commercial units, the development will bring 109 new homes to a site in Ranelagh Road and opposite Ipswich Railway Station.
BSP director Tony Goddard said: “This scheme to create new apartments in Ipswich will bring additional homes to this area of the town.
“As an experienced civil and structural engineering company working in both urban and rural areas, BSP was very pleased to be appointed by S H L Property Services Ltd to undertake both the flood risk assessment and the drainage strategy for this development.
“The site is adjacent to the River Orwell, which is tidal in this location, but it benefits from defences including the Ipswich Flood Barrier. Our flood risk assessment proposed including flood resistant/resilient measures in the design of the building to protect and mitigate against flooding. And the scheme has been designed to provide refuge above the predicted flood levels.
“We are very pleased to see that this development has been approved by planners in Ipswich.”
Details
Urban View Architecture Ltd designed the new apartments, which are expected to become a landmark development in the area.
Half of block A will be four storeys in height, rising to seven storeys in part. Block B will be eight storeys high, while block C will be seven storeys with a roof top terrace.
Each apartment will have a balcony, and the development features parking spaces with electric charging and provision for 240 cycle spaces.
The plans were submitted by Kream Properties.
