Key parts of the new NCHA mixed-use development at Clifton near Nottingham have been completed.
BSP Consulting is the civil and structural engineer for the scheme, working alongside GEDA.
NCHA (Nottingham Community Housing Association) is creating the mixed-use scheme in Farnborough Road on the former college site.
Recently the new headquarters for NCHA has been completed, along with new, purpose-built supported housing.
The supported living service, named Malone Terrace in tribute to local social housing pioneer and NCHA founder Andrew Malone, will offer 14 self-contained flats for people in need of mental health support who are also at risk of homelessness.
It will provide short-term accommodation with additional support. Specialist support workers will work with residents to help them learn essential life skills, and help them move on to more permanent, independent living. NCHA designed, built and will run the service, which has been commissioned by Nottingham City Council.
Andrew Malone, who passed away in 2023, created NCHA in response to the homelessness crisis of the 1970s.
Sitting on the newly created Fairham Brook Drive, the two-storey building will offer fully furnished flats, with a social space and communal courtyard.
Sustainability
Built on a gas-free site, the homes have been built to energy rating ‘B’. Heating and hot water will be provided by air source heat pumps, and solar-generated power will deliver electricity. Green living roofs, vehicle charging points and thick layers of insulation ensure these homes will be warm and comfortable, minimising their environmental impact.
Malone Terrace forms part of NCHA’a larger development designed by NCHA’s in-house architects, Pelham. This £3.7 million initiative was made possible through a collaborative funding effort between NCHA and Homes England.
NCHA’s new headquarters is moving to the Clifton site, and the office space has also recently been completed.
BSP MD Carl Hilton said: “BSP Consulting was proud to be appointed to work on this NCHA mixed-use development on the former Nottingham College site in Clifton.
“This has been a lovely job to be involved in and the office space sits really well in this new setting.”
Alongside the new office and the supported living accommodation, the site will feature 56 independent living flats and bungalows for people over the age of 55. The existing football and army cadet facilities will remain open.
