BSP Consulting notched up double success at the 2018 ProCon Leicestershire Awards – winning a special innovation prize for its nominated project and being part of the team that took the title of Small Non-Residential Scheme of the Year.
The organisers awarded the SuDS scheme at Birkett House School in Wigston – an educational sustainable drainage system at the school for youngsters with special educational needs – with an innovation award.
BSP Consulting was the main designer for the Sustainable Urban Drainage System and worked closely with DSA Environment + Design. The company used its engineering and drainage expertise to transform the DSA vision of a biodiverse, learning space focused around water into a viable, effective and impressive sustainable drainage infrastructure scheme.
It was designed to provide a safe, inspirational, life-enhancing outdoor educational facility for the pupils, while at the same time creating a sustainable, extensive and effective drainage system for the new buildings and site.
BSP Consulting Associate Director Matt Viggars, who worked on the scheme, said: “This was a bold, inspiring, and educational SuDS scheme, and we are delighted that it has been recognised with an innovation prize at the ProCon Leicestershire Awards. The whole team involved in the scheme is very proud of what has been achieved at Birkett House School.”
BSP was also part of the team that was involved in the Get Busy Living Centre at Burrough-on-the Hill, which won the Small Non-Residential Scheme of the Year sponsored by Infrastructure Investments, and which was submitted by Willmott Dixon, MDA Consulting, Corporate Architecture, Salus, BSP Consulting, Couch Perry Wilkes, CPMG Architects and Derry Building Services.
A state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility, it supports those who have suffered life-changing injuries through sport and was the brainchild of former England Under-21 rugby player Matt Hampson.
