Work is due to start on site by autumn on a scheme to deliver improvements for Bulwell, Nottingham.
Nottingham City Council successfully bid for £19.8m from the previous government’s Levelling Up Fund to revamp the town centre area and boost economic growth.
The work that’s in the pipeline includes refreshing Bulwell Bogs with a new planting and landscape design incorporating the renewal and expansion of the splash park and the introduction of a refreshments kiosk with toilet and changing facilities.
It also includes replacing market equipment in the Market Place, along with introducing better access to electricity on site.
The project team will also rebuild the bus station public toilets, and renew paving in the pedestrianised areas of the town centre, plus introduce new seating and trees.
BSP Consulting is the civil and structural engineer on the redevelopment. Engineers at the company have undertaken the flood risk assessment, and have worked on designs for the paving and drainage, as well as the structural aspects of the new facilities.
BSP is working alongside contractor Willmott Dixon, architect Leonard Design and landscape architect Ares on the project for Nottingham City Council.
Public realm
Director at BSP Consulting Tony Goddard said: “BSP has been involved in a number of public realm schemes to upgrade and regenerate key spaces in towns and communities.
“Having been involved in the designs, which have been drawn up following consultation with the public and representatives, we look forward to work starting on site to these improvements for Bulwell, Nottingham.”
Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council and Executive Member for Strategic Regeneration, Transport and Communications, said: “These are further exciting plans for Nottingham and another example of the council using grant funding to support communities across our city.
“We did well to secure this money amid a lot of competition from around the country and we hope that residents, families and businesses in Bulwell will be pleased at what is delivered.”
