Hybrid planning permission has been granted for a new hospital mental health unit and associated infrastructure.

BSP Consulting undertook the transport planning work for proposals for the new state-of-the-art Mental Health Unit at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.

Unanimously approved by Blaby District Council’s Planning Committee, the development will replace outdated facilities with a modern unit designed to provide exceptional mental health care.

Lead contractor Tilbury Douglas will create four adult acute mental health wards, an urgent care hub and more for Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.

Other members of the development team include Planning and Design Group and P+HS Architects.

Transport planning

Director at BSP, Mark Rayers, said: “Engineers at BSP were very pleased to be asked to undertake the transport planning work for this new hospital mental health unit.

“The development is due to be built on existing open space at the edge of Glenfield Hospital and will provide modern, up-to-date mental health care facilities.

“We have extensive experience of working on health schemes and were delighted to hear that this project has been given the go-ahead by receiving hybrid planning permission from Blaby District Council.”

The new facility will replace the existing Bradgate Unit and will be sited on an 8.5 acre area of grassland next to the Leicestershire County Council headquarters.
