BSP Consulting has been instructed to design the new visitors’ car park at Leeds Castle in Kent.
One of the most visited historic buildings in Britain, the site has been a Norman stronghold, the private property of six of England’s medieval queens, a palace used by Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon, a Jacobean country house, a Georgian mansion and an elegant early 20th century retreat for the influential and famous.
Now, BSP has been appointed by the estates department at the castle to design new surfacing and improve the drainage at the four-hectare car park – taking into account the sensitive nature of the site and its environment.
The aim is to have an all-weather surface for visitors to park on all year round.
“It can only be imagined how many visitors there have been over centuries at Leeds Castle. The BSP Consulting team is proud to be playing a role in helping to welcome the very many more visitors of the future,” said BSP civil engineer Stephen Hardman.
