BSP Consulting was part of the team involved in a development which delivered an expansion for Frank Key at its Mansfield Road premises in Daybrook, Nottingham.
The company provided civil and structural engineering services for the project, which was undertaken on a tight, challenging and live site.
It involved converting the existing two-storey houses into office space and a sales area, as well as extending the building with a steel frame to create a double-storey showroom.
Other members of the team included JMF Chartered Architects, Samclo Construction and BEC Consultants.
Challenging site
Associate director at BSP Consulting, Monika Anszperger, said: “Engineers at BSP Consulting were very pleased to be involved in this expansion for Frank Key – a well-established regional builders merchants.
“This was a very challenging site, as it is a tight site and we had to fit the proposal into existing structures. It was also a live site, so we had to work closely with our client to ensure we did not cause unnecessary disturbance.
“The site had a large existing storm water sewer (600 diameter) running across it and the architect designed the building to avoid building over it as it is a Severn Trent Water asset.
“In addition, the existing terraced houses had to retain their residential appearance externally, but internally had to be an open-plan space with a link to the new showroom.
“It was a fantastic project to work on, and we are delighted that it has now been completed, and the client is so happy with the result.”
Frank Key Daybrook Building Supplies is the original Frank Key branch. It is a one-stop shop for builders and tradesmen across Nottingham.
James Firth, director at JMF Chartered Architects, added: “Frank Key, JMF Chartered Architects and SAMCLO, with the able assistance of BEC and BSP, have produced a wonderfully fit-for-purpose building, on a very challenging and technical site. Our client is incredibly impressed with the end result.”
