BSP is civil and structural engineer for a new £9m conference facility being built by global chemical corporation Lubrizol at the company’s site in Hazelwood, Derbyshire.
Designed by Morrison Design, the high-tech conference centre is being partially built below ground – into the hillside – to create a split-level facility which will be used for meetings and training.
It will replace Lubrizol’s ageing training facility and has been designed to be as energy efficient as possible, with heat recovery systems, natural ventilations, a living roof and other technologies.
The building is predominantly steel framed, with a southern elevation that is mainly glazed with substantial solar gain protection cantilevering from circular concrete columns. The circular columns are exposed with a polished finish.
The new building, which will be able to accommodate up to 200 people, is expected to be completed during 2020. Contractor is G F Tomlinson.
