Required

  • Degree or other qualification in a relevant subject such as Transport, Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning
  • Experience in Transport Planning, working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience of financial elements of project management, including preparing fee proposals, forecasting and invoicing.
  • Experience of being the lead client contact and developing strong working relationships
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant local and national transport policy, guidance and best practice
  • Experience of data collection and analysis, including commissioning surveys
  • Experience in using relevant software, such as MS Excel, TRICS and GIS
  • Excellent report writing skills with experience of preparing Transport Statements/Assessments and Travel Plans
  • Experience using junction modelling software, such as Junctions (PICADY & ARCADY) and LinSig, interpreting and challenging the results
  • Knowledge of DfT transport analysis guidance (TAG), including strategic and microsimulation modelling such as VISSIM or PARAMICS
  • Experience of effective negotiation of conditions and Section 106 contributions for highways and transport mitigation for development
  • Knowledge of the appeals process
  • Knowledge and understanding of highway design standards, including for sustainable travel and active travel innovations
  • Excellent organisation, communication and presentation skills
  • Problem-solving and numeracy skills
  • Ability to work efficiently within agreed timescales
  • Strong personal work ethic, working both independently and as a team

Specification

Purpose

BSP Consulting has an immediate vacancy for a Principal Transport Planner in our Leicester or Nottingham office to work within our experienced Transport Planning and Engineering team.

Responsibilities

The position would primarily involve the preparation of transport statements, transport assessments and travel plans to accompany planning applications for private sector clients.

The role would also include:

  • Providing advice on highway and transport related planning issues, including access strategies and feasibility studies, based on current policy and guidance.
  • Preparing preliminary horizontal designs for site access junctions and highway improvements for highway authority approval.
  • Ensuring work is delivered to a high technical standard within agreed timescales, working both independently, plus supporting and mentoring other team members.
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients, design teams (including internal and external multidisciplinary professionals) and highway authorities.
  • Managing multiple projects as the lead client contact

Experience

Experience in Transport Planning is essential to the role, as is experience in using relevant software, such as TRICS and Junctions.  Experience using LinSig, GIS, AutoCAD, AutoTrack, PDS Sign/Line and other relevant software would also be an advantage. Experience of working on and managing multiple projects simultaneously, including client liaison and financial elements of project management.

Education

Applicants should have a degree, and ideally with a post-graduate qualification, in a relevant subject, such as Transport, Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning.

Hours of work: A minimum of 37.5 hours per week, core hours are 9am until 4pm, Monday to Friday where staff are required to be at work. Hybrid and other flexible working practices to be agreed with line manager.

Holidays: Allowance is in line with industry standard and is subject to relevant experience, and additional holiday as part of long service bonus.

Salary: A competitive salary will be offered and is subject to relevant experience. Company pension scheme.
