Care home extension plan
January 31, 2023

Transport experts at BSP Consulting have been involved in a care home extension plan being developed in South West Wales.

The scheme includes the construction of 132 serviced care units contained within six blocks, an administration building at the entrance of the site, a swimming pool and hydrotherapy unit, and other medical facilities. It will be built adjacent to the existing Park House Court Care Home in Tenby and will create an additional 35 permanent jobs.

BSP was appointed by Chartered Architects, Halsall Lloyd Partnership to create an addendum to the original Transport Statement for the development.

The addendum was for the application of a further extension of time to the original planning permission, granted in November 2013, which was subsequently updated, and provides updated information to ensure no site or development proposal conditions have significantly changed since permission was granted, and that the application fully complies with current transport policies for Wales.

Transport Statement

BSP’s work included reviewing the Transport Statement, updating the Travel Plan to include electric vehicle charging, and designing the footpath/cycleway in front of the site. The new section of shared footway/cycleway will provide excellent connectivity from the site to the existing National Cycle Network Route 4 shared footway/cycleway to the North. NCN Route 4 also provides connectivity to Tenby to the South of the site.

The Transport Statement addendum was prepared in accordance with the National Planning Policy Wales.

BSP Transport Director Mark Rayers said: “We were pleased to have been appointed to complete the transport planning work for this care home extension plan. Our involvement will help pave the way for work to start on site in due course and create this new facility.”

The existing Park House Court Care Home facility on the site comprises an 81 bed nursing home, of which 78 are nursing care and three are residential care, and a private ‘cottage’ hospital which has 26 beds. It is approximately 1.7km north of Tenby town centre on the A478.

Work on site is expected to get underway during mid/late 2023, following receipt of the formal planning approval.
