Managing director of East Midlands-based civil and structural engineering firm BSP Consulting, David Sumner, is once again stepping out to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research.
Later this month he will be taking part for the third time in the 10in10 challenge – an annual walk which conquers ten peaks in ten hours in the Lake District and which raises money for the MS Society to spend on research into the debilitating neurological condition.
Over the years, David and his supporters have raised thousands of pounds for the MS Society – a cause close to his heart, as his wife Pat has been living with the condition for more than 20 years.
This time he hopes to collect £1,500 to help fund work into stem cell research.
“I continue to try and do my bit to contribute to raising as much money as I can to help the encouraging research being undertaken to find a cure,” said David. “I am trying to run as much of the 16-mile 10in10 course as I possibly can – with a dodgy Achilles!
“The sooner we get there, the better, and give Pat and all those who suffer this terrible disease the quality of life they deserve.”
Over the years, David has undertaken a number of challenges in aid of MS research, including climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in 2014. The latest, which takes place on 23rd June, sets off from Newlands Valley and includes Causey Pike, Sail, Crag Hill, Wandope, Whiteless Pike, High Snockrigg, Robinson, Dale Head, High Spy, and Maiden Moor.
More than £341,000 has been raised for research by the 10in10 challenge since it began in 2011 – created by Yvonne Booth in response to her husband Duncan’s diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010, at the age of 39.
David, the MD of Nottingham-headquartered BSP Consulting, which also has branches in Derby, Leicester and Sheffield, has set up a fundraising page for donations here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/david-sumner3
“I really am truly grateful to all the friends and family, and colleagues, associates and clients in the construction sector in the East Midlands and beyond, who have supported me and continue to do so, in raising money for research into a condition that is close to my heart,” said David. “I know I’ve asked before and I will be asking again no doubt, but if anyone could support me once again, it goes without saying that it would be greatly appreciated.”
