Getting on our bikes…

Over the summer, several of our team took to two wheels to join various cycling challenges and events. Civil engineering director Tony Goddard and associate structural engineer Gareth Ellison, accompanied by business development manager Carrie Booth in a support vehicle, completed the 100-mile C2C2C charity cycle ride in Lincolnshire. Tony and Carrie have also taken part in the Continuing Pedals Development cycling sessions in Leicester, while Gareth joined Prop Cycle in Nottinghamshire for a monthly networking ride.

Early in September, BSP once again teamed up with architects YMD Boon to host a cycling session at Derby Velodrome. Tony, Carrie, associate director Monika Anszperger and structural engineer Dan Gillen hosted on behalf of BSP, while the YMD Boon hosts were Ajay Chauhan, Steve Day, Kevin Cahill, Shari Setayesh and Katie Ford.

BSP is a big supporter of cycling and runs a popular Cycle to Work Scheme to help staff purchase new bikes. Associate Gareth Ellison, structural engineer Thanos Fotiou and structural engineering technician Danny Doherty have all recently taken advantage of the scheme to purchase new bikes.

Work experience

BSP is a keen supporter of the next generation of professionals and has hosted a number of youngsters on work experience recently.

This included a year 12 student from The Ecclesbourne School who joined our Derby office for three days in July, a 15-year-old from Toot Hill School at Bingham, who spent time in our Nottingham office, and a year 10 student who undertook a week of work experience split between the civils and the structures team in Nottingham.

Pictured is Lenny Hilton, from The King’s School in Grantham, who spent a work placement day with the Nottingham structures team working on AutoCad drawing and using Tekla Structural Designer.

Scoring success

Congratulations to Ruddington Colts last season’s Under 8s on winning the U8s Summer League. BSP sponsored the team shirts and also donated two pop-up goals for the team, which includes Leo Ellison, eight-year-old son of BSP associate Gareth Ellison.

The team is just embarking on a new season as Under 9s and we wish them luck for the coming months.

Three Peaks Challenge

BSP director Paul Elphick successfully completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in ten hours with a group of friends, who between them raised around £1,000 for Cancer Research UK. The 24-mile walk took in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Housing conference

BSP Consulting and HLP Architects jointly hosted a fringe lunch event as part of the Chartered Institute of Housing Conference 2022 in Manchester. Thanks to everyone who attended.
