Sad News
We are sad to report the tragic loss of Andy Middleham who lost his short battle with cancer in January.
Andy joined the BSP Structures Team in January 2005, and although he had moved away for short periods he always came back home and he was truly a much loved member of the BSP family.
Andy was a great presence in the office particularly when it came to making jokes, he could see the funny side of anything.
Everyone on the team has a great story about Andy who was a top fella with an infectious smile and possessed a unique sense of humour.
At the same time, Andy was a great Senior Structural Engineer and he had a lot of clients who held him in very high regard and returned to him time and time again for his expertise. He was so close to becoming a chartered engineer, he would certainly have achieved this status in the next year of his career.
Andy loved live music and was probably at his happiest at either a Rock City gig or the Download festival.
Above all though Andy was very much a family man and our thoughts are with Abi, Siobhan and Blake as they try to come to terms with his loss.
I know I speak for everyone at BSP in sending our deepest condolences to them.

Sports stars
We are proud to have two sports stars amongst the staff at BSP Consulting.
Apprentice structural engineer Josh Plumridge has been called up to the GB men’s handball squad and at the end of last year took part in the World Championship qualifiers in Finland. Also a member of the Nottingham men’s handball team, his ambition is to represent GB at handball in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Meanwhile graduate transport planner Caitlin Simon is off to Ohio, USA, in July this year as part of the 2022 World Ultimate Frisbee Club Championships with a Midlands-based women’s team.
Award shortlisting
BSP’s MD Carl Hilton has been shortlisted in the 2022 East Midlands Leadership Awards.
Run by TheBusinessDesk.com, the awards celebrate the best in business leadership and Carl has been named a finalist in the Professional Services category.
Carl’s nomination focused on his leadership of the structures team at BSP, his role in supporting the early adoption of BIM, his support for apprentices and junior members of staff, and his recent move to managing director of the company.
The awards final takes place on 10th March at the Crowne Plaza in Nottingham.
Foodbank donations
Staff at BSP held a big collection at Christmas to support local food banks. Donations for the food banks run by the Renaissance Church in Nottingham and the Hinckley Area Food Bank in Leicestershire included food and toiletries. Thank you to all staff who donated.

Wedding news
Belated congratulations to BSP’s office manager Katie Smith (nee White) who married Jack in a lovely ceremony in Rhodes in Greece in September. It was third time lucky for the pair, whose previous attempts to tie the knot had been thwarted by Covid restrictions. We wish them all the best for the future from everyone at BSP.
Industry talk
BSP MD Carl Hilton gave the first presentation of the year to the Team Lincolnshire Coffee Club, focusing on the company’s involvement in the Bomber County Gateway Trust Project, which hopes to create a full-sized Lancaster Bomber steel art installation near the A46 between Newark and Lincoln. BSP is a Team Lincolnshire Ambassador.
Pro-Con patron
BSP Consulting has become one of 11 new Pro-Con Leicestershire patrons for 2022, and part of the team of 22 business patrons backing the network of property and construction professionals and firms.
The backing of the patrons enables the 22-year-old organisation to better connect its 600-plus members. As well as enabling events to take place, the patrons’ support also helps sustain ProCon’s website which provides a platform for individual members and firms to connect with each other and to share news and views.
BSP is also a patron of Pro-Con Nottinghamshire and BSP’s business development manager Carrie Booth has been a member of the board since the organisation was formed in 2018.
