Celebrate Chesterfield
BSP had a team at the Celebrate Chesterfield Business Expo in March, taking a stand in the Investment Zone. The event was organised by Destination Chesterfield in association with System Q and sponsored by Markham Vale and the University of Derby, and showcased the property and construction sector and opportunities for inward investment in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire.
Vacancy
We are looking for a shaft tunnels associate to work in our Nottingham office. The initial appointment is at associate level, however, it is envisaged that within five years the successful candidate will be leading our Shafts and Tunnelling Section as an associate director.
The candidate should have experience of acting as designers geotechnical advisor on projects dealing with National Highways, and ideally would have some experience of working on Network Rail Projects.

Lincolnshire expo
BSP showcased the company’s expertise at the Property & Business Investment Expo Lincolnshire recently. MD Carl Hilton and associate James Payne were on the stand to chat to visitors at the event, which was aimed at construction, property, finance, investment, and related professional services, and held at Bentley Hotel in Lincoln.
Awards night
We were pleased to attend the EEM Building Communities Awards where two projects that BSP had been involved in were shortlisted for an award. Alexander Lodge, a replacement temporary accommodation scheme on the former Seven Hills site in Newark, was a finalist in the Carbon Reduction Project of the Year Award. Eton Avenue Shops Refurbishment in Newark was shortlisted in the Refurbishment Project of the Year Award. Both were nominated by Newark and Sherwood District Council.
New baby
Congratulations to associate structural engineer Nezih Yasdiman and his wife Betul on the birth of their baby girl, Duru, who was born on 1st April 2024.
Who’s a good boy?
BSP office manager Katie Smith and her four-year-old goldendoodle Jasper have been volunteering with Therapy Dogs Nationwide since the start of the year.
The pair regularly visit care homes to help provide therapy for the residents, who include elderly people and young people with special needs.

Lincolnshire award
We were delighted to have been a part of the team that has been delivering the Lincolnshire Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Programme for Lincolnshire County Council which triumphed at the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2024. BSP engineers worked alongside Willmott Dixon on the scheme, which took the Development Project (over £5m) at the awards held in February.
New starters
We have welcomed three new starters since our last newsletter: senior transport planner Kiran Kaur, who has joined our Leicester traffic team, and graduate civil engineer Ifeoma Onyekezini and structural technician Mark Weston who have both begun working in our Derby office.
Promotions
Congratulations to a number of our team who have recently been promoted. Nezih Yasdiman has moved up from principal structural engineer to associate structural engineer and has returned to our Nottingham office full time, having worked for a spell in our Derby office. Milan Vadher, who works in our Leicester office, is now a senior transport planner. And Charlotte Taylor has been promoted from apprentice technician to apprentice structural engineer. She works in our Derby office.
