BSP Consulting is celebrating an award shortlisting after the Hub and College in Horncastle was announced as a finalist in the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2024.

Delivered by contractor Willmott Dixon for client East Lindsey District Council under the Scape National Major Works Framework, the new college and public sector hub is one of Horncastle’s most significant developments to date and has provided further education space for Boston College, as well as a new headquarters building for East Lindsey District Council.

BSP Consulting provided the civil and structural engineering services for the scheme, while Bond Bryan Architects were also part of the team.

Carrie Booth, BSP’s business development manager, said: “This is great news that BSP is celebrating an award shortlisting for the Hub and College in Horncastle. The development has provided important new governance and education and training facilities for the town and local area.

“We feel it is a very worthy finalist in the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2024, and look forward to the ceremony in the new year. Congratulations to all the other shortlisted projects and companies.”

Shared space

The new state-of-the-art shared space is a two-storey multi-use building which has provided both learning and office facilities, along with two car parks.

On moving from its previous headquarters, the council has been able to streamline its services and reduce its maintenance costs and carbon footprint. Alongside the benefit of being housed in a more sustainable building, the council’s relocation to Horncastle is also bringing future economic benefits to the local area and places the governing body at the centre of the district.

The development has also brought a landmark further education facility to the district, operated by Boston College. Featuring three classrooms and a digital innovation computer-based classroom, plus a staff room, the campus has created new learning opportunities in digital and other skills for individuals aged 16 and over. Access to further and higher education within East Lindsey had previously been limited and, by introducing a more accessible provision, local businesses will be able to readily access training to meet their skills needs, helping them to grow, increase productivity, and add value to the local economy.

The Hub and College in Horncastle is a finalist in the Development Project (over £5 million) category at the awards. A ceremony to announce the winners takes place on 1st February 2024 at the Doubletree by Hilton Lincoln.
